Zero Carbon Retrofit Project Example – MyPowerHouse

Project: Conversion of a Former Industrial Unit to an Energy Efficient Multipurpose Space.

Overview of Project Scope: AD Construction Group is currently carrying out retrofit and building improvement works to convert a former industrial unit into a modern, energy efficient multipurpose space in Sidcup, Kent – ‘MyPowerHouse’.

Once completed, the building will provide hot-desk/local office facilities as well as a workplace extension of AD’s adjacent building to AD employees. As a further tranche to project’s holistic carbon reduction plan, retrofit will also house 20 x Electric Vehicle Charging Points (EVCP). We strive to be forward thinking on all energy efficiencies from start to finish, following PAS2035 framework, using a fabric first approach – building tight and ventilating right - as part of specification design work to reduce heat demand as far as possible through improving building fabric before introducing new energy systems.

Local subcontractor Ozone EPC conducted an EPC survey, identifying ways to improve efficiencies and overall building EPC rating. Following detailed building assessment by our design lead, we determined measures and materials fit for the purpose of providing overarching energy efficiencies to reduce building’s energy consumption and carbon emissions, all factored into retrofit design.

MyPowerHouse building is being fitted with insulation and double glazing to ensure airtightness, we are using low carbon technologies such as upgraded heating systems, and mechanical ventilation systems with heat recovery, and installing photovoltaic panels to generate renewable electricity for the building. All materials have standard guarantees.
